Maria Garcia Longaron

Associate, Senior Architect

Maria Garcia Longaron studied architecture in ETASG University Alcala de Henares, Madrid, Spain, graduating in 2008. Alcalá de Henares is a world heritage city, which made her develop a special interest in the areas of conservation and sustainability, by understanding the natural way, in which a project should respond to a place. Following graduation, Maria moved to Ireland with a Leonardo Da Vinci European grant to work with McCullough Mulvin, and upon completion, joined the team full-time. Here, Maria gained experience on a large variety of public, educational, residential, and healthcare developments. During this period in Dublin, Maria found a second home in Ireland and a tasteful and durable response to the environment and respect for existing buildings, in Irish architecture.

Maria relocated to Cork in 2015, where she worked on a number of private dwelling houses prior to joining Butler Moffat Architects in 2017, which has recently become Healy Butler Moffat Architects. Currently, she is working on a number of educational and healthcare projects throughout Ireland. Maria became an Associate of the practice in 2023. She is also an RIAI registered architect and a member of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland since 2017.

Maria began her career in Architecture, following a personal interest for design and technology that has allowed her to enjoy all stages and requirements of a project, from early design to more specific and technical details, with an interest in durable structures.

Maria is inspired by European and South American architecture based on simple lines and volumes that introduce light and shadow as one component in the space. This creates some drama, by simply lighting the space in a special way. She particularly loves the acute details in a building, that transform the space in a unique way.
